Haven Cove

What is Haven Cove?

Wait, hold up. Are you just trying to register for a Haven Cove event? Then click here!

Similar in concept to a sorority, Haven Cove is a sisterhood. However this sisterhood is built on relationship with Christ, committed to gathering in community (both on and off campus), growing in faith, and giving in service to shine the light of Christ in a dark world. Haven Cove is a women’s house for current SC students, gap-year women, and recently graduated Warriors who want to live in community with other women who want to grow in their faith and develop their gifts to shine His light in a dark world. Haven Cove is based on three tenets:

Gather: We do this organically through homemade “family dinners”, House meetings, game/movie nights and worship events.

Grow: We do this through mentoring opportunities, Bible studies on and off campus, life coaching, church involvement, and other small groups.

Give: We do this through things you are likely already a part of such as serving in church or community organizations, organizing worship events, or leading study events.

Each resident’s gather, grow, and give combination is personalized to her gifts and goals, so no two journeys look exactly the same. Since many of the activities that the residents are already doing fall into gather, grow, and give, within this intentional Haven Cove environment, the natural flow of life becomes a more intentional framework for apprenticing after Christ.

Specifics

Requirements: Residents of the house must participate in gather, grow, and give tenets; stay current on Haven Cove room and board; fulfilling house chore rotation; and contributing to positive interaction within the house. (If the resident is a student, she must also remain in good academic standing.)

House “Family”: There is a live-in Resident Advisor who has been with Light Up The Dark for two years and whose primary role is to nurture a Christ-centered home-away-from-home environment. Haven Cove also has a House Mom who does not reside in the house, but serves as another source of support for the residents by attending House Meetings. The Director of Light Up The Dark is heavily involved in the individualization of each resident’s journey, meeting with each resident as it fits with their schedule, making networking, training, coaching, mentoring, and resource options available that match each resident’s goals and gifts, to facilitate growth and help ensure a positive experience at Haven Cove. All three women are easily accessible.

Cost: Light Up The Dark subsidizes the overall cost of the house which makes living at the Cove very competitive with other on and off-campus options. Cost varies slightly and is dependent upon single or double occupancy rooms but runs approximately $100 per week ($400/ month or roughly $2000/semester) which includes utilities, shared groceries, and access to other perks. The house is located three blocks from the edge of campus. A car would be helpful but is not imperative. (Haven Cove is an approved off-campus residence option by the administration of SC.)
