Who We Are

heather-157-2Welcome to Light Up The Dark.  I’m Heather Oden, Founder, Director, and Chief Freedom Officer. Every person on our team has their own story…and we are overcomers.  Wherever you find yourself today, we want you to know that there is still hope.  There is a God who deeply loves you in the middle of this broken world and He intends to write good things- freedom, love, unity, and overcoming- into your life.  No matter where you find yourself today, there IS still good.  There is freedom.  We’ve found it.  It is our mission to share it, to empower others to find it, and to live in it together.  We do this through online content (Light Up The Dark Academy), personally reaching out through coaching, counseling, mentoring, and classes (Operation Restore), speaking to groups (Jacob’s Legacy), and walking together to create a new beginning (Lighthouse).  No matter what your past has held, your future is yet to be written.

ORGANIZATIONAL EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Light Up The Dark is a 501c3 corporation with charitable status.  Formed in 2016, Light Up The Dark was exists for the purpose of offering concrete opportunities for people to break the proverbial chains of darkness and be free to live the lives they were created to live by taking advantage of the tools of empowerment offered by Light Up The Dark. All empowering tools offered by Light Up The Dark are accessed through the transformational work of Jesus Christ in relationships.  Transformational change takes place in the incubator of relationship through empowerment that comes from accessible hope and personal work.  Light Up The Dark accomplishes these relationships and this empowerment through its four initiatives:

The Lighthouse Initiative: Lighthouse is a residential or nonresidential occupational and educational 18-month experience.  We do not call Lighthouse a “program” because people are not “projects” that need to be “fixed”.  People are souls that need to be met where they are; and then offered the tools, opportunity, education, and accountability to create the life they desire to live.  Through our three phase process, participants take part in necessary life skill education like financial health, occupational readiness, discipleship, relational health, personal responsibility, support system formation, and other areas of growth.  Each participant is matched with an advocate that walks with them through the 18 months.  Held accountable by weekly Goals Meetings driven by three levels of benchmarks and eight steps to financial independence, participants are placed in an environment where either full time work or part time employment and part time school enrollment are required.  Ten months before the transition out of Lighthouse, participants work in their required weekly counseling sessions on their transition plan.  This plan includes mapping their new support system, identifying work and housing for their transition out of Lighthouse, and exploring New Start locations.  New Start locations are locations that Light Up The Dark has family partners who have agreed to help find employment opportunities, housing options, community of faith involvement, and general support for Lighthouse families who may not want to move   back to a toxic situation that they lived in before their entry into Lighthouse.  For more information visit: www.lightupthedark.live/lighthouse

Operation Restore:  Operation Restore offers people-to-people services that serve as a platform for education, empowerment, and relational healing.  These services include Christian counseling through Beacon Faith and Family, access to Christian life coaching, access to sexual assault advocacy, access to our mentor program (filled with trained and background checked mentors), Active Parenting classes, Revelation Wellness classes, Financial Freedom classes, our addiction recovery group, and other educational, empowering, and healing programming.  For more information visit:  www.lightupthedark.live where multiple tabs will further explain each opportunity.

Jacob’s Legacy:  Jacob’s Legacy is a group of speakers who travel to schools, community organizations, churches, and retreat facilities to offer keynotes, breakout sessions, full retreats, or speaking programs.  Speakers will work with thematic presentations that coordinate with the client organization, but all programs revolve around purposeful, intentional, and hope-filled living.  Speakers integrate their own life stories into thought-provoking, empowering messages about living on purpose and with intentional trajectory.  For more information visit:  www.lightupthedark.live/schedule-a-speaker

Light Up The Dark Academy:  Light Up The Dark Academy is currently the least developed of the four initiatives but is intended, by the third quarter of 2019, to be our online location for anyone with access to the internet to participate in personal growth.  Currently the plan is to have at least three departments of the academy: Devo Series, Mini-Classes, and Triage.  Our Devo Series department will be comprised of devotional series written by multiple, vetted writers, particularly those with personal testimonies of overcoming to offer hope for those who need to overcome.  Mini-Classes will offer exactly what in implies, mini-classes (not for credit) for personal spiritual growth and development.  Triage will be a place that people suffering in specific ways can come for “first-aid”.  For example, a parent who discovers their child is self-harming, can come to this section of the academy and find a list of do’s and don’ts from reputable and vetted relevant institutions that deal with self-harm as well as links to their websites and access to professional help.
